ABOUT THE COMIC SERIES

A video explaining the Tuskegee Heirs brand and vision.

“Tuskegee Heirs: Flames of Destiny” is a NEW futuristic sci-fi action-adventure comic book series set 80 years into the future that follows a squadron of young, gifted aviators, who are forced to become Earth’s last line of defense against a menacing race of artificially intelligent villains bent on destroying civilization.  Trained at the legendary Moton Field, by Col. Mars (our own fictional descendant of the Tuskegee Airmen), these five teens and their crew embody strong moral ethics and team strategies used by the Red Tails themselves to overcome their problems. Follow along as our team travels the globe in an effort to save  civilization, exposing little known history and geography along the way.

WHO ARE THE TUSKEGEE HEIRS?

How it came to be

From the minds of local Atlanta illustrator/writer, Marcus Williams and children’s book author Greg Burnham comes the “Tuskegee Heirs: Flames of Destiny” comic series. What started as a conversation highlighting the lack of content that exposes youth to the importance of aviation, quickly became a springboard of creativity and opportunity to craft something unique. Combining futuristic science fiction, action adventure, real history, and the inspiring story of the WWII fighter pilots, the duo aim to pay homage to the historic Tuskegee Airmen, all while bringing forth a new set of character rich, young heroes. With plans to produce an ongoing comic book series, Marcus and Greg also intend to push this project towards an animated series.

Character Cast

Ayanna

Character Bio

Ayanna is the team leader and strong moral compass that keeps the team in well oiled shape. A brilliant strategist and cool head under pressure, Ayanna was born to lead, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a team member that will admit otherwise.

Able

Character Bio

One of the most naturally gifted pilots on the team, Able was born to fly and with the extended hands-on training from Col. Mars, he may quickly become the most skilled pilot on the planet.

Genesis

Character Bio

The brains of the outfit and team geographical/topographical expert that keeps the team up to date and informed on all mission details. An otherwise sweet and timid soul, Genesis comes alive in combat and is a truly fearsome force to be reckoned with.

Omar

Character Bio

The field mechanic on the team and talented tech specialist, Omar is a balanced pilot with strong will and a laid back demeanor. A hoarder of information, he proclaims himself a historian should the need for knowledge present itself.

Jena

Character Bio

Every bit the mechanical genius, Jena keeps the Tuskegee Heirs flying while obsessing over all things Hi-tech. Just don’t damage her planes without just cause because that has proven to be problematic.

Slip

Character Bio

The weapons expert of the team and thrill seeker with a cool head under pressure (sometimes too cool). The comic relief, Slip may be the shortest member on the team, but he boast the largest personality around. He often plays the dumb role to throw off his opponents only to later reveal just how sharp he truly is.

Colonel Mars

Character Bio

The founding Tuskegee Heir. Mars is the guiding force for the kids and keeps them together with lessons of team building and core values that aid them in all of their endeavors. While he takes a backseat to the action overall, underestimating this original Tuskegee Heir would spell disaster for any opponent.

P-5000 Mustang (Jet/Mech)

Character Bio

The technology that powers the weapons and aircraft is an anti-gravity, electromagnetic cycle generator (A.G.E.C.G.). When activated, it causes local weightlessness to the machinery it’s attached to, while converting the unused gravitational energy into focused renewable propulsion or destructive energy. This grants extreme maneuverability to the aircraft and mechs. Without this, it would be impossible to move the tons of weight associated with the compact engineering involved in concealing a bipedal robot in an airplane.

THE SERIES PLAN

What's Different about this story?

What’s special about Tuskegee Heirs is that the project boldly places 5 black youths firmly as the main characters while highlighting both African American history and world history alike. On Friday, Jan 15 2016, the two producers launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production of both the comic series and possibly raise funds for the production of an animated pilot short to be pitched to Netflix. The campaign reached it’s primary goal of $10,000 within 7 hrs and 45 mins of launching it and is still raising funds as we speak. The Kickstarter link is here

Volume 1 Graphic Novel

Very few stories published to date has attempted to present both a brave young black cast while presenting a polished view of history to audiences ranging from ages 7 to 70. The producers of this concept have already begun to change history by rallying the support of fans that have expressed that they are fully ready to see a series that dares to change the comic and animation industry. As producers poised to reach nearly every industry including comics, animation, video games, and the silver screen, we would like to spread the word about the upcoming series to as many outlets as possible.

TEAM & KEY ROLES

Marcus Williams

Illustrator, Writer and Co-Creator

A long time lover of video games, comic art, and all things animated, Marcus dedicated his young artistic years to fine tuning his illustration muscles by way of freelancing. Over eighteen plus years later, he's catching his stride and still ever growing in hopes of being a well rounded illustrator.
Stationed in Atlanta Ga, he spends most of his time toiling away late nights on everything from illustrating comic art, fan art, children’s books to random character commissions and more. A proud father of two, he somehow manages to steal enough time to create loads of artwork and check homework. He's excited about the direction his comic properties are heading in, and looks forward to creating more forms of visual entertainment and stories to enjoy.

Greg Burnham

Writer and Co-Creator

Greg Burnham is a Children’s Book Author, and Co-creator/writer of Tuskegee Heirs. His passion for history is only matched by his fire to inspire children to reach higher heights. By day, Greg works in finance, coaches basketball and raises his two children. By night, he, along with Marcus Williams form the duo that has brought Tuskegee Heirs to life.

The Long-Term Goal

We’ve been asked many times now in many interviews following the Kickstarter what our long-term goals are. The best way we can explain this goal is that we want to bring this never before seen presentation of a team of gifted young black youth that marries Science Fiction and action-adventure with real history to the eyes and ears of a new generation of children to jump start a new paradigm of knowing yourself by knowing where you come from. Education is the foundation of our goal on all possible presentations whether it be comics, animation, video games, etc., and we plan to reach classrooms with these characters and their adventures to equip teachers with a fresh new way to hold the attention of young minds while simultaneously expanding those minds with new information that may never show up in academic history books.
We believe there is no platform that Tuskegee Heirs can’t stand on as a brand and be successful, and we have full confidence that this series will help to bring forth a new market for “Edutainment”. From the outpouring of support we have received up to this point, our current goal is to continue connecting with anyone that is passionate about pushing this vision forward and helping to change the perception of what can be processed on entertainment streams and printed media.

    PowerHouse Animation Studio

In mid-January, illustrator Marcus Williams joined forces with writer Greg Burnham and launched a kickstarter for a new comic series, Tuskegee Heirs. Their Kickstarter reached nearly seven times its original goal and hit several stretch goals, including additional comic issues and merchandise development. Our team at Powerhouse Animation got the chance to work with them to create an action-packed cinematic for their Kickstarter. Read More…

    CREATOR SESSIONS

    What are Creator Sessions?

When the idea of having a behind the scenes look at what it was we were putting together came to mind, we needed a camera person that could make those concepts spring to life. Luckily, we ran into a brilliant young woman by the name of Brianna (A.K.A. The Brave Cat) that could do just that and the videos that followed are the first of many to come in the near future. Creator Sessions aims to put the fans in the passenger seat as we tackle the very large job of creating the Tuskegee Heirs series as well as bring forth a number of merchandise to aid in our branding process. Enjoy the videos, and look forward to more soon!

    Tuskegee Heirs Black Panther Premiere

On Feb 15, 2018, Tuskegee Heirs partnered with some awesome sponsors to hold an exclusive premiere screening for the new Black Panther film in downtown Atlanta GA. Over two hundred seats were filled that night, and the vibe was just right. Fans of the comic character and Marvel cinematic universe alike, came out (some dressed in cosplay attire) full of excitement in anticipation for the film. This slick video is a brief testament of the experience and energy of the event. Enjoy.
