Upon meeting their mother in this alternate reality, the trauma of what they had previously witnessed before their journey here has given them reason to be cautious. Chidike takes the chain that has his mother’s earrings adorning the vibranium links from around his neck to present as evidence to the now shock-stricken Storm. Folami remains painfully quiet, breathing sloftly as she shields her pain safely behind her brother. Her eyes unwavering, affixed to Storms every move, her feelings are jumbled tightly inside her as she shrinks slowly into Chidike’s shadow.
“I’m your mother?!” Ororo repeats in disbelief, almost hoping for a change in the expressions of the two youths before her. An icy ball of fear forms in the pit of her stomach as the teens give no such change. Her eyebrows slowly tilt upwards as her fantastic experiences among the ranks of the X-Men remind her that nothing is impossible. Doubt begins to fade and her heart softens as the pain in their eyes start a trickle of acceptance that such a claim could be true.
